A small species from Mexico to Peru and Venezuela with toffee coloured flowers with a crinkly lip
Encyclia radiata is a South American species found in Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama etc and has HIGLY FRAGRANT flowers that are carried upside down! Naturally an epiphytic orchid but equally at home in a pot these plants usually get to around 10 inches high. The flower spikes are carried at the top of the newly finished bulbs and are in clusters around a 6 inch long flower spike. The flowers are cream/pale green and the lip is help upright and has fine lines of purple/lilac - they look like cockleshells!
Encyclia tempensis is native to Florida and has FRAGRANT burnt orange flowers of around 1.5 inches with a large frilly lip in white and pale purple lines on it. This specimen is mounted on a chunk of natural cork and should flower in the next 12 - 18 months
Mormodia Painted Desert is a very interesting mix of parents. Clowesia Rebecca Northen x Mormodes sinuata giving us these incredible dark red flowers carried on pendant flower spikes, flowers are FRAGRANT and smell like sandal wood! Plants loose their leaves in winter and require a winter rest
