A primary hybrid means plants that have species as both parents. An example would be Paph St. Swithin which is a hybrid of Paph. rothschildianum and Paph. philippinense (a primary hybrid). Crossing Paph. St. Swithin with another species like Paph malipoense will produce 'normal' hybrids and can not be called 'primary'. Hope this is all clear
